The Beauty of Blackness Tribeca X Winner of Feature Film Category

At the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival, ‘The Beauty of Blackness,’ a film created by Digitas in partnership with Sephora, Vox Creative and its story-hunting division Epic Stories, and Ventureland, was awarded Best Feature Film. The powerful documentary tells the story of Fashion Fair Cosmetics, the first brand to create a line of cosmetics specifically for women of color.

Launched in the 1970s, the brand revolutionized the beauty industry and became a household name for every Black woman in America. The film chronicles Fashion Fair’s rise, fall, and rebirth in 2021, against a tumultuous shift in commerce and culture. ‘The Beauty of Blackness’ gives a front-row look at the massive undertaking that goes into reviving an iconic beauty brand amidst a new cultural context, how the industry has changed, and how much progress we still have to make.

The film was co-directed by Kiana Moore, VP of Epic Stories at Vox Creative and Tiffany Johnson (Black Monday, Dear White People and Twenties).

The Tribeca X win is the latest recognition for the film, which has taken home accolades at The Clios – Bronze for product/service film: Five Minutes and Over; The One Show for Full-Length Video and Brand Partnerships; ADC Awards for Motion/Film -- Documentary and Craft in Motion/Film-Direction. The film was also named to the LA Independent Women Film Awards and was a finalist at the Campaign Brand Film Awards, Campaign US Power of Purpose and AICP.

This win is a first for Digitas and Publicis Groupe. The agency was previously named a finalist in the short film category for “A Woman’s Place,” a documentary created in partnership with KitchenAid, Vox Creative, and Ventureland.
